-Ultrasound Leads to Ultra Results-

Vein Center of Westlake Village Takes a High-Tech Approach to an Age-Old Problem

It’s springtime in the Conejo Valley and our focus is shifting from cozy winter activities to outdoor sports, events and vacation plans. This change of season finds us thinking about enjoying the more carefree attitudes and lightweight attire enjoyed under sunny skies. It is also the time that any private doubt we have about our physical appearance may rear its head.

“As the weather warms up, many people are faced with the challenge of how to enjoy their active lifestyles and, at the same time, not feel self-conscious about the appearance and health of their legs. In fact, it’s surprising how many people won’t participate in a sport like tennis because they’re concerned about varicose and spider veins,” says Karel Douglas Vaughan, M.D., a phlebologist who began his career in physical and sports rehabilitation medicine. “It prevents them from engaging wholeheartedly in whatever they want to do, whether it’s going to the beach or wearing fashionable summer clothing. And for those who have previously gone through treatments to rid themselves of these unsightly veins and had poor results, it’s even more discouraging because the problem keeps recurring. Now, there’s an effective treatment to remedy these issues.”

This non-surgical method of treating varicose or spider veins is known as surface Sclerotherapy. This method has been used for decades and now has a laser treatment counterpart. However, these methods only address the visible veins, which may be symptoms of a deeper problem.

The technique Dr. Vaughan employs, Ultrasound Guided (USG) Sclerotherapy, goes beyond the surface to diagnose and address the causative problem. Dr. Vaughan is one of only a handful of physicians around the country currently practicing what has proven to be the most successful non-surgical treatment for vein disorders of the legs in the long-term.

“Older methods are less effective because they aren’t treating the source of the problem,” explains Dr. Vaughan. “This ismore than a cosmetic issue, and injecting or zapping the visible vein may be only a temporary solution. Overtime, the feeder vein(s), where the source of the condition exists, will ‘refill’ the problem veins, and then patients are back where they started, leaving them disappointed and frustrated. USG Sclerotherapy is an excellent option for anyone who is tired of hiding their legs or suffering with the discomfort that can accompany vein disorders. This method may work for you, even when other treatments have been unsuccessful.”

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy is a safe and effective method for the treatment of varicose and spider veins. Dr. Vaughan’s treatment facility, Vein Center of Westlake Village, specializes in this remarkable technology, attracting patients from all over California. With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time to stop thinking about your unsightly or painful veins and take action towards a solution. “Many patients don’t realize that this procedure requires them to wear pressure gradient stockings for a period of time during and after the treatment in order to have the most effective results,” reminds Dr. Vaughan. “This makes spring a great time to get treatment and be on your way to enjoying the healthier, more attractive legs we all desire for summer – and beyond.” -WM
