-PHYSICIAN HEAL THYSELF-
…was the response given to this Caster reporter by the brilliant and ever so warm and charismatic Karel Douglas Vaughan, M.D., as to why he has pursued and pioneered new fields in medicine. For, it was his own neck and back problems that led this entrepreneur from the field of physical therapy to a degree in medicine (with emphasis on soft tissue and sports injuries), incorporating alternative medicine whenever possible. With a thriving practice in both these areas, it was his integral assistant, Kyndra, who brought Dr. Vaughan’s attention to the unsightly spider and varicose veins on her legs, and accompanying pain that this woman in her twenties was suffering.
Dr. Vaughan began an exhaustive search in this area and, finding that there was no treatment that he felt remedied this condition in a satisfactory and lasting way—you guessed it—perfected one. Hence the birth of Vein Center of Westlake Village, Los Angeles and Ventura County’s best answer to the alleviation of those ugly spider and varicose veins that can creep onto our legs and make it excruciating to don a swimsuit or a pair of shorts – not to mention the pain that one physically suffers from those mars on the beauty of our legs.
What is a varicose or spider vein? “In layman’s terms,” explains the ever so patient and kind Dr. Vaughan, “A varicose vein is an enlarged vein that has been under high pressure for a period of time, causing dilation – at first you can’t see them – and then they emerge; f not treated they will get worse. Clusters of spider veins result almost always from some sort of trauma to the leg. I see this in many men who have been in motorcycle accidents. (Dr. Vaughan gave this Caster reporter a much more detailed description – just give him a call and he’ll be happy to explain!) You see, one of the most beautiful things about Dr. Vaughan is that he encourages questions. He even has clients calling him for explanations of what other doctors meant when they gave the patient a diagnosis – and he takes the time to explain.
But what does this mean to al us Industry folk??? UGLINESS and PAIN – two things that we want to avoid if at al possible – and now it is! “I love what I do,” remarks this compassionate doctor, “I just treated a woman in her fifties this morning that wants to go snowboarding. We were able to get in tow full treatments, and the results were magnificent.” Needless to say, Dr. Vaughan didn’t get a lunch! And what makes this case such a significant one is that this patient had been to other specialists’ offices and had experienced vein procedures with little or no results! Not so at Vein Center of Westlake Village.
While other centers charge exorbitant fees for a simple leg examination, the Vein Center charges a fraction of the price for both legs, and the consultation fee is fully reimbursable in treatment – a program designed to get results. And, after treatment, they offer free vein checks! “When I first started the vein therapy, I thought we’d do it a couple of days a week. But the results have been so significant, the word has spread and now it’s taken over the practice,” remarks Dr. Vaughan with exuberance. “It’s a thrill to see self confidence restored and pain relieved. My philosophy is to do the best you possibly can for each patient. Treat them as you would yourself or a loved one. Everyone needs to have his or her needs taken care of.”
Patients share, “When Dr. Vaughan is with me, he’s not with anyone else – he gives me the time that I need, with no interruptions – it’s all about ME!” And this philosophy is what pervades the staff of the ever-so-caring Vein Center. From gentle yet professional Margot, the office manager, to assistant extraordinaire Kyndra, everyone is there for YOU. “I’ve been fortunate enough to assemble a Dream Team,” shares Dr. Vaughan. And what does that mean for you as a patient? When you enter the doors of the Vein Center you will be greeted by a team that’s in love with the art of practicing medicine.
And, let’s not forget that Dr. Vaughan has time to answer any other medical challenges that you might have, employing holistic and preventative techniques whenever possible, but also having the ability to call upon the world of allopathic medicine and write a prescription if necessary. How would this Caster reporter categorize this happily married (of 18 years and he adores his dynamic wife) physician who went on a hunt to heal himself and his staff and now shares this with others – it would be CARING and EXPERT. Thank you Dr. Karel Douglas Vaughan for bringing compassion and caring coupled with extraordinary results back to a field so badly in need of it! You truly are the Physician who Healed Himself and shared it with the world!
